October 16th, 2008

Aamir Khan was reportedly at loggerheads with Amitabh Bachchan thanks to criticism in his blog about Big B’s film Black and his acting in it. This was at the time when Aamir’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par was about to be released. Much was later written in the media about each other’s comments to each other.

24 hours a day is less for Aishwarya

October 8th, 2008

Aishwarya is really traveling and managing it all by herself. She’s one lady who has been in demand, before her marriage and even after that.

The lady has been traveling here and there to cope up with all her busy schedules.

She has been shooting in Peru for a Tamil movie with the superstar Rajnikant, and then an ad shoot in Paris - the fashion capital of the world. She then traveled to Mumbai for her beau’s movie premier ‘Drona’ and then back again to Kolkata for a fashion show.

Drona — more flaws than fantasy

October 6th, 2008

My most reliable test of judging a fantasy film is whether I notice the person sitting in the next seat - if I do, that means the film wasn’t gripping enough for me to be totally absorbed in it.

That’s what a fantasy film should do - transport you into its imaginary world and haul you back only when the end credits roll - for that matter, any film should do that.

Drona didn’t pass the test.

Abhishek’s 3D factor

September 23rd, 2008

Strange things happen in showbiz. And you don’t know how to explain it.

How do you explain the fact that Abhishek Bachchan’s next three films all have titles beginning with the letter ‘D’ - Drona, followed by Dostana and Delhi 6.

How do you explain the fact that last month Madhavan was shooting for two films simultaneously both beginning with the number ‘3′ - 3 Patti and 3 Idiots.

How do you rationalize the revival of interest in the supernatural? Eerie-fairies are flying around filmdom. The fur hadn’t even stopped flying over Phoonk - after a ceaseless string of homages to the underworld Ram Gopal Varma’s ode to the other-world.

It is known news that Priyanka Chopra is playing the body guard of Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Drona’. But we have found that her role in the film is modelled completely on the Trinity character played by actress Carrie-Ann Moss in the super hit Matrix series films.

Salman threatened to kill me : Vivek

November 22nd, 2004

Salman Khan is back in the news. For the wrong reasons, once again!

At a packed-to-capacity press conference at his plush bungalow in Juhu on April 1, Vivek Oberoi told the media persons that Salman Khan had threatened him in the early hours of March 30.

Vivek claimed that Salman called him 41 times that night and abused him in the choicest of expletives, accusing Vivek of having “physical relationships with Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherji, Diya Mirza and Somy Ali,” Vivek revealed.

Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya

March 12th, 2004

Does Bollywood’s version of Picture Perfect work with the combination of Abhishek Bachchan in his second film and Keerti Reddy’s debut in Hindi?

A major hit worldwide, the songs Tera Jadoo (by Sonu Nigam and Chitra) and Qayamat Ho showcase entertaining visuals and exciting vocals.

Having all the mannerisms of pops, Abhishek gives hints of the big B’s style to a new generation of cinemagoers conceived as ‘Deewar’ was played to packed houses.

The plot line is basically a rip off from another blockbuster from Hollywood - Picture Perfect (the Jennifer Aniston vehicle). Unfortunately Keerti is no Miss Aniston (or should that be Mrs Pitt?).

Om Jai Jagadish

February 26th, 2003

When an actor of Anupam Kher’s experience and caliber decides to step behind the camera and wield the megaphone, expectations begin to soar.

Joining hands with a production giant like Vashu Bhagnani, big wig music director Anu Malik and lyricist Sameer, Anupam put together a formidable team coupled with an all star cast. Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahima Chaudhary and Urmila Matondkar were signed up for the leading roles in this multi starrer family drama. The seasoned actor turned director was taking no chances and no short cuts. Relying on an age old tried and tested formula of a joint family of three brothers with the quintessential Indian mother, Kher had chosen a story line close to the heart of the masses. To attract the more westernised metro audiences, a glitzy stylised finish was apparent in all the promos aired on various channels. Om Jai Jagadish seemed to have all the necessary ingredients for a box office hit.
