Partition saga by Pakistani ready for release

May 3rd, 2007

It doesn’t have songs, is in Punjabi, is made by a Pakistani and is considered a mainstream film — documentary filmmaker Sabiha Sumar’s first film “Khamosh Pani” is finally set to be released in theatres across the country.

But will there be an audience for a film about a victim of the partition of India into two countries whose past catches up with her in unexpected and tragic ways?

The question needs to be asked even though the sweet tender film has floored everyone who has seen it so far.

Salman Khan is back in the news. For the wrong reasons, once again!

Devdas

November 13th, 2004

Adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s book and inspired by Bimal Roy’s Dilip Kumar earlier role as ‘Devdas’, the movie is a classic slice of a bygone era.

The film is the tragic love story of Devdas (Shahrukh Khan), Paro (Aishwarya Rai) and Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit). All three bold characters who loved intensely and fiercely but whose love remained unfulfilled.

Devdas and Paro are childhood sweethearts who are separated for ten years when Devdas is sent to England to study by his strict disciplinarian father, and the film begins as his family eagerly celebrates his return from his enforced exile. But to his family’s disappointment, ten years of absence has only intensified Paro and Devdas’ love…

Despite a track record of flops, Kaushik has extracted remarkable performances from the star cast of this emotional saga.

This brave step changes the course of her life. Hunted down by the assailant’s brother, Puru Raaj Kumar, she is raped and her life is ruined. Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai

Kandukondein Kandukondein

October 22nd, 2003

Rajiv Menon started as an ad filmmaker and continues to be one – despite directing movies like Kandukondein Kandukondein. But is it any good?

MENON began eyeing the big screen when he shot the brilliantly beautiful Bombay for Mani Ratnam and obviously thought he could do better. Well, we all know he couldn’t.

His first film, Minsara Kanavugal (even more atrocious as the dubbed Sapnay), was a self-indulgent cotton candy of riotous colours, inducing diabetes in the most hardy of cinemagoers. A lot of money sank with that first effort, but maybe it was (if you feel particularly generous) well spent, because Rajiv got a grip on himself and came up with Kandukondein Kandukondein (KK).

Dil Ka Rishta

October 12th, 2003

Star Cast: Raakhee, Aishwarya Rai, Arjun Rampal
Director: Naresh Malhotra

I have seen all movies of Aishwaryaji from Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya to this one, Dil Ka Rishta.

I don’t understand why she had such a fancy name like Tia in film? Don’t mind, I’m liking Paro better. And that boy Arjun Rampal. He got Juhi Chawla’s husband’s name. Jai Mehta. He is very rich and driving all foreign cars. But she loves other boy Raj with Pinocchio nose. His name I cannot pronounce. Priyanshu Chatterjee or something, correct?

Mohabbatein

October 22nd, 2001

It was the film that we had all been waiting for. This movie proved, once and for all, that Shahrukh Khan, is Bollywood’s biggest star name.

SET in the fictitious college of Gurukul, we see three love stories utilising the younger cast in addition to Bachchan’s strict authoritarian and Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj Aryan - a music teacher with a secret.
