Get dramatic This season

May 12th, 2008

Red, beige-gold and pale bronze are the perfect colors for this festive season.

So you’ve got yourself a great outfit, the right jewellery and even the perfect pair of shoes. All you need now, then, is the face to go with it. Makeup, just like apparel, needs to be suitable for the occasion. Makeup that may seem perfect at work may be too understated for a festive occasion or a wedding. And considering that people tend to favor traditional outfits for weddings and festive occasions, the makeup needs to be a little more dramatic to accentuate and complement the whole look.

Wake up to right Make-up

Whatever you’ve got - make-up can make it better! Co-ordinate your eye make-up, lip color and nail polish with your complexion and clothes contrasting and combining colors to create the focus your face deserves.

Steps to Perfect Make-up

Choose the right light in which you do your make-up. Day-time make-up is best put in daylight by the window. Evening make-up should be done in front of a centrally positioned electric light. Use a hand-mirror for really close work, i.e., applying the eye-liner or the mascara. Apply make-up on a skin that is freshly cleansed, toned and moisturized. Wait for five minutes before starting your make-up. Give yourself enough time to do a good job. Plan your look before you start laying your equipment in front of you. Keep your make-up kit clean and tidy. Sharpen all your pencils and make sure your brushes are clean and no residue of the previous make-up is left on it.

How to Protect Your Skin in the Summer Sun

Wear Sunscreen:

To protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays, wear a minimum SPF 15 sunscreen every day. Be sure your sunscreen is waterproof. Read the directions carefully and then apply.

Cover Up:

Wear protective clothing and duptta when you’re out in the sun. Don’t wear dark colors (especially black) on sunny days. Loose-fitting clothing made from tightly woven fabric works best.

Dare to be different : Nabila

May 3rd, 2006

Few, dare to be different. Especially, in an extremely conservative society. Even fewer, find acclaim in doing so. She’s one of them. Nabila. Rebellious and revolutionary. Known for defying conventions, Nabila’s ventured into uncharted terrain and walked her way to victory as Pakistan’s top hair stylist and make-up artist. Today, she’s a name well-regarded in the international fashion scene for her unique work.

For a person whose made her mark in the make-up business over an impressive 20 years, Nabila comes across as rather soft-spoken and unassuming. Pride is a thing that’s not on her palette. A rare virtue in the world of high-fashion, where people wear ego on their sleeve. She allows her work to speak for her. Work that’s visionary, and challenges all that’s in vogue. An attitude, that’s way ahead of times.
