Gia Ali - a name that spells trouble. An actress who ends up chasing more trouble than any other actress in the business. Wild. Wanton. Home breaker. Man-eater. One-hit wonder… All these allegations and a lot more resound whenever the name of Gia is mentioned; anywhere. But is she as bad as she has been painted? Let’s ask Gia.
You had to your credit one of the biggest hits of Pakistani cinema, Deewanay Teray Piyar Kay. But even its mammoth success didn’t have directors lining up at your door. Doesn’t this make you a one-hit wonder?

Music has a greater influence than cricket, when it comes to improving Indo-Pak relations, believes Faisal Kapadia, lead vocalist of Pakistani band Strings. “In cricket one team wins and the other loses, while in the exchange of music concerts, it’s the audience that wins ultimately,” says he. Faisal alongwith Bilal, the lead guitarist, make up the band. Many a time they have performed live in India.
What’s the band’s take on the controversies of lip syncing, of late doing the rounds in India recently? “Often we are asked to do so by organisers, specially for shows on TV channels,” says Bilal. But he feels it is a crime to lip sync in a live concert. “Given a choice nobody would want to fool the audience,” he says.

It appears as if the floodgates have been opened for foreign entertainment and news channels. The last couple of years have seen an invasion by cable channels, which can be seen wherever you go, from restaurants and homes to shops. This is all part of the phenomenon called ‘globalisation’. Pakistani viewers, noticeably, are losing interest in local channels because of the glitz and glamor of the foreign media. It is easy to see that the majority of images beaming out of television sets are of foreign films and shows. Viewers countrywide prefer Indian music, films and Hollywood flicks and this has resulted in the local channels being relegated to the background.

Madonna’s done it, Liv Tyler’s done it…heck, even Joe Schmo down the street has probably tried it once! No, we’re not talking about some kinky fetish here; we’re actually referring to mehndi. Mehndi, mehendi, or henna, as it is more popularly called, has become quite the rage ever since Hollywood and the entertainment industry embraced it around the mid-1990s.

Sequel to 2000’s “The Whole Nine Yards” squeezes one yard too many out of the concept of cheerful hired killers double-crossing each other. Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, Kevin Pollack and Natasha Henstridge seem to be having fun. But what, exactly, are they doing? Directed by Howard Deutch. 1:37 (violence, racy humor, vulgarisms). At area theaters.
“The Whole Nine Yards” made somewhere between $50 to $60 million when it was released four years ago. Not the kind of take that sends pulse rates into the red zone, but large enough to catch many movie mavens by surprise.
