Umar Sharif Rocked the Zee Cine Awards

August 18th, 2006

Forget the behind-the-scenes drama, the Zee Cine Awards in Dubai last weekend truly rocked. More than anything else, it made a genuine effort to cement the Indo-Pak relations further, which have been on an upswing in the recent times. Simply put, Bollywood and Lollywood were akin to the ambassadors of peace that night.

Hosting a majestic show not in India, not in Pakistan, but in a third country (Dubai, U.A.E.) and assembling the biggies of Bollywood (Big B, Dharmendra, SRK, the Roshans, Preity Zinta, Urmila, Sushmita Sen, Saif Ali Khan, Randhir and Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapur, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi) and Lollywood (Reema, Resham, Jawed Sheikh, Umar Sharif) was an effort in the right direction and the management of Zee deserves bouquets for it.

Bollywood Stars love to Visit Lahore

March 14th, 2006

Lahore is fast becoming the Mumbai crowd’s top holiday destination. From youngsters looking for a cheap vacation to film stars and writers, all are looking forward to crossing the Wagah border in the near future.

Bollywood’s Mr India, Anil Kapoor, revealed his old ties with Pakistan. “My mother is actually from Lahore and we still have a family home in Peshawar,” he said, adding that travelling to the NWFP and seeing the places where his mother spent her childhood were his main reasons for wanting to visit Pakistan. Anil admits that despite this connection, he remains unfamiliar with Pakistan’s traditions and that the extent of his knowledge goes no further than what he has observed in a few films.

For the sake of dosti

June 22nd, 2005

She came, she saw and she conquered. We are talking about Bollywood belle Urmila Matondkar and her whirlwind visit to Lahore. She rightly termed her trip as dosti ka safar since she was friendship and amity personified, calling for greater sports and cultural ties between India and Pakistan and rightly declaring that this would bring the two estranged neighbours together.

Urmila came to Pakistan for the video of rock band Fuzon that has been directed by Saqib Malik from Pakistan and P. Kakar from India - another dosti venture that might hopefully open the doors to such more ventures.

Om Jai Jagadish

February 26th, 2003

When an actor of Anupam Kher’s experience and caliber decides to step behind the camera and wield the megaphone, expectations begin to soar.

Joining hands with a production giant like Vashu Bhagnani, big wig music director Anu Malik and lyricist Sameer, Anupam put together a formidable team coupled with an all star cast. Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahima Chaudhary and Urmila Matondkar were signed up for the leading roles in this multi starrer family drama. The seasoned actor turned director was taking no chances and no short cuts. Relying on an age old tried and tested formula of a joint family of three brothers with the quintessential Indian mother, Kher had chosen a story line close to the heart of the masses. To attract the more westernised metro audiences, a glitzy stylised finish was apparent in all the promos aired on various channels. Om Jai Jagadish seemed to have all the necessary ingredients for a box office hit.

Govinda and David Dhawan, the ever popular comedy double-act are united once again for Kunwara. This time round David Dhawan’s comedy crown is slipping.
